Here is our latest Hemi Swap project: a 1967
Plymouth Belvedere currently equipped with
a 318 and 904 auto. This swap will set in a 6.1
Hemi from a low-mileage Magnum. We will
also be using a late model overdrive automatic.
The trans arrived bolted to a 5.7 from a truck. While the car is here, we'll also do a 4-wheel disc brake conversion and swap the factory air for a Vintage Air Gen IV unit. We will also repaint the engine compartment, install front and rear sway bars and do a few other performance and cosmetic upgrades.
The 318 is out and all the engine compartment
do-dads are removed. We've also removed the
complete front suspension and some of the grille.
The suspension and grille removal are more for
ease of access and to make our job of updating the
cosmetics much easier. As with anything we touch,
any parts we remove and replace on our projects
get completely cleaned, prepped and painted or
powdercoated before they go back in. This engine
compartment and suspension will be spotless.
Firewall shot shows old A/C holes. All will be filled
since the new A/C unit will not need any of them.
Visible also is the truck 5.7 still bolted to is trans
installed to get a feel for the fit. Warning: truck 5.7
instake manifold and air plenum will not clear the wiper bulge!

A new transmission hump is under construction for
the large overdrive trans. The rear mount lines up
perfectly with the t-bar crossmember, but the hoop
over the trans needed to be greatly enlarged.

The firewall has been smoothed to remove all the
holes for the factory A/C. A new Vintage Air unit
will be installed shortly. The notch in the trans
tunnel opening is for the dipstick.

The motor and trans were assembled on the K-frame
as we normally do, then the entire assembly lifted up
under the front of the Belvedere. It all fits very nicely
in the engine compartment.
All the wiring has been completed, a new fuel tank
with internal pump has been installed and A/C lines
run to the compressor. The radiator still needs to be
mounted and a few other connections made.
